The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has issued a notification for filling vacant positions of chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and deputy mayors across several municipalities and corporations in the State.
According to the notification issued on Monday, district collectors have been instructed to convene special meetings by January 30 to facilitate the elections. The elections will be conducted indirectly on February 3.
Deputy mayoral elections are set to take place for Tirupati, Nellore, and Eluru corporations. Additionally, elections for chairpersons will be held for municipalities in Nandigama, Hindupur, and Palakonda. Vice-chairperson positions will be filled for municipalities in Buchireddypalem, Nuzvid, Tuni, and Piduguralla.
State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney stated that these elections aim to fill the vacancies created due to various reasons. She emphasised the importance of adhering to procedural guidelines and timelines to ensure a smooth election process.
This notification marks a critical step in addressing administrative vacancies in urban local bodies, which play a pivotal role in implementing developmental projects and addressing civic issues across the State.
