A 53-year-old male patient has died of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) at a hospital in Mumbai, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Bhushan Gagrani said on Wednesday (February 12, 2025).

This is the first death reported in Mumbai due to GBS, taking the total death toll in Maharashtra to eight.

The patient was admitted to on January 23, with weakness in his legs.

Due to his critical condition, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and had difficulty breathing, which led to him being put on a ventilator. The patient was diagnosed with GBS and received appropriate treatment. The patient passed away on February 11, 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official statement said.

Mumbai reported its first case of GBS on February 7 after a 64-year-old woman, resident of Andheri (East), was diagnosed with the nerve disorder, officials earlier said.
